DIMAPUR — The Khuzama Empowerment and Skills Advancement (KESA) hosted its inaugural ‘Farmers Market’ in the heart of Khuzama village, Kohima district, on November 23.
With 20 sellers showcasing fresh produce, handmade crafts, local food and beverages, and artisan goods, the event marked the beginning of a transformative tradition for the local community, KESA stated in a press release.
Special attractions such as the ‘Khuzama village walk’ and the ‘Nature safari’ added a unique cultural and adventurous flair to the market, drawing locals and visitors alike, while a live baking session captivated attendees with demonstrations of culinary artistry, offering both entertainment and learning opportunities.
KESA, a pioneering initiative of Mhachü Kedojü Houdo under the Khuzama Baptist Church Centenary Committee, was established with the vision of empowering youth through skill development and entrepreneurial opportunities. Rooted in inclusivity and a non-denominational approach, KESA aims to foster community development and sustainable livelihoods across the region.
The Farmers Market serves as a key milestone in KESA’s journey toward achieving its mission while building momentum for the Khuzama Baptist Church’s grand Centenary Celebrations in 2030.

Speaking at the event, KESA convenor Razouvikhol Luho remarked, “This market is a celebration of our community’s creativity, resilience, and determination to progress. Through initiatives like this, we aim to inspire and equip our youth to take charge of their future while preserving our rich heritage.”
Attendees enjoyed an array of locally produced goods, including organic vegetables, traditional textiles, and artisan jewelry. Holiday-themed crafts and floriculture displays captured the festive spirit, while homemade treats such as jams, pickles, and baked goods delighted visitors.
“The village walk and nature safari stood out as highlights of the day, offering participants a chance to experience Khuzama’s rich heritage and natural beauty. These attractions underscored the community’s dedication to preserving its cultural and environmental treasures while promoting eco-tourism,” the release stated.
The Khuzama Farmers Market not only showcased the talent and resources of the village but also highlighted KESA’s broader goals of fostering economic growth and social cohesion. The event’s success lays the groundwork for its continuation as a cornerstone of community development, ultimately leading to the centenary celebrations in 2030, it added.
Earlier, the event commenced with an opening prayer by Pastor Mhaphuvi Naleo of Khuzama Baptist Church.
