Dimapur, Jan. 21 (EMN): Hingeing on the plank to provide development, quality education, medical facility and address the problem of educated unemployed youth, Z Kasheto Yeptho has announced his candidature to contest the upcoming state assembly election from 2-Ghapani-II assembly constituency (AC) on Republican Party of India (RPI) ticket.

Kasheto Yeptho declared his candidature in the presence of party officials and supporters at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur on Saturday.

Interacting with media persons after his declaration, Yeptho affirmed his commitment to serve the public wherever he was required. He added that the decision to contest the election on RPI party was made after meeting the union minister, Ramdas Athawale, recently in New Delhi.

As he will be pitted against a strong contender from NDPP and the incumbent advisor of Sericulture and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, an optimistic Yeptho remarked that “winning or losing is in the hands of God.”

Describing the public as the ‘best judge’ on developmental aspects in the constituency, Yeptho however was of the opinion that 2-Ghaspani-II AC is one of the worst neglected areas in the whole of Nagaland. RPI being a national party, Yeptho stated that the constituency can be developed only by working in cohesion with the centre.

Yeptho, who had earlier contested as an independent candidate from 1 Ghaspani-I AC against the incumbent PHED minister, Jacob Zhimomi, clarified that the decision to contest from 2 Ghaspani-II was purely his personal choice and without any external pressure. He added that the decision was in compliance to close family affinity.

Also speaking on the occasion, state unit RPI president, Mughato Aye, informed that the party would set up only few candidates in the upcoming state election. He expressed confidence that the party candidates would emerge victorious and create history not only in Nagaland but also in India.

Aye informed that the focus of the party is on the welfare of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe , dalits and other minority communities. With the involvement of young leaders and educated professionals, Aye expressed confidence that the party would grow in the days to come.

It may be mentioned here that RPI was launched in Nagaland in 2019 at the Agri Expo Site with its headquarters in Chümoukedima.
