Karbi Ex-Revolutionary United Forum seeks BJP ticket for upcoming election

Diphu, May 17 (EMN): The six armed organisations who were disbanded last year have now sought BJP tickets from seven Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) seats from Karbi Anglong district for the ensuing Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election scheduled to be held on June 8 in the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

The Assam State Election Commission on May 12 last announced the dates for conduct of elections to KAAC.

The six armed organisations includes Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), three factions of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) and United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) on September 4, 2021 signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the government of India and government of Assam to end the armed struggle.

After the signing of the MoS on September 25, 2021 the organisations were disbanded and on October 9, 2021 together with all ranks and files and cadres joined the BJP party.

During a press conference held at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong office in Diphu on Tuesday, the former home secretary of KLNLF and now secretary of Karbi Ex-Revolutionary United Forum (KEUF), Umesh Teron, said that the ensuing KAAC election under the banner of KEUF would field six candidates and for which BJP ticket have been applied for.

Teron who has urged the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC Tuliram Ronghang to provide party tickets to the six candidates said, “There are more than 1000 cadres and in order to see to their problems and needs we need elected members in the KAAC. Due to these needs we are fielding our candidates in seven MAC constituencies from the BJP party.”

In implementing the MoS the Central government on April 16 last has given a rehabilitation package of INR 4 lakh to each of the 1030 former-cadres. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also recently visited Loringthepi in Karbi Anglong on April 28 and laid foundation stones for construction of  new veterinary college at Manja, Agriculture College at Kolonga and Model Degree College at Umpanai in West Karbi Anglong, which are all part of the MoS agreement.
