DIMAPUR — The strategic Jiribam-Imphal new railway line project in Manipur is steadily progressing towards completion. This 111 km line aims to connect Imphal with the Indian Railway network via Jiribam.
According to an official update, nearly 80% of the work is done on the 141 meter tall Noney Bridge over the Irei River, set to be the world’s tallest pier bridge once it is ready. This engineering marvel is part of 11 major and 137 minor bridges being constructed along the route. The project also involves several tunnels spanning 61.32 km.
Once completed, this railway connectivity is expected to provide a major boost to Manipur’s trade and commerce. Tourism is also expected to expand.
The Jiribam-Imphal link is a crucial component of the central government’s focus on enhancing rail connectivity to all North-Eastern state capitals under its ‘capital connectivity’ plan.
