Huluyi Vade-o retains Secheku wrestling title
KOHIMA — Twenty-one-year-old Huluyi D Vade-o on Friday retained his title after emerging as the champion of the 29th Secheku Wrestling Association (SWA) held at Porba village under Phek district.
Vade-o was the champion of the 28th edition of SWA two years back.
Hailing from Sakraba village, the six-foot tall wrestler weighs 96 kg.
Eighteen-year-old Thuputha Hesuh from Porba village, Huravo Vadeo from Sakraba village and Kuvenu Puro from Porba village, secured second, third and fourth positions, respectively.
The champion received cash prize of INR 1,00,000, first runner-up 80,000, second runner-up INR 60,000 and fourth INR 40,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nuo Swuro lifted the under-16 category title and received INR 30,000. The first runner-up Vephi Kezo won INR 20,000, second runner-up Kuthosu Dzudo won INR 15,000 and Kho Vadeo (fourth position) received INR 10,000.
The winners in both categories along with other selected players will represent the SWA in the forthcoming Chakhesang Wrestling Association championship to be held at Chozuba.
Earlier, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, Leader of NPF Legislature Party, attended the inaugural function as the special guest.
He exhorted the sports persons that to excel is to fear God and make Him first. Nienu also urged the wrestlers to take inspiration from the senior and prominent players who had made the community proud.
Thupuvecho Vadeo, president of Chakhesang Union Chümoukedima, the guest of honour, he stressed on the need for sportspersons to develop professionalism.
