Higher Education department flags-off buses for 5 colleges in Nagaland
KOHIMA — Amidst the demand for college buses across the state, the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, flagged off five college buses on Tuesday during a brief ceremony held at the Directorate of Higher Education complex in Kohima.
The buses, procured through the initiative of Higher Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along, will be sent to Sao Chang College in Tuensang, New Model College, Mangkolemba, Zunheboto Government College, New Model College, Wakching, and Peren Government College.
Additional Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Sentiyanger Pongen, flagged off the buses in the presence of directorate of Higher Education officials and the concerned college principals.
He expressed optimism that the colleges would make the best use of this transportation facility.
Director of Higher Education, Dr. A Nshoga, informed that the five buses were part of a larger initiative to provide buses for colleges across the state. He expressed gratitude to Minister Along for his support and commitment to the department’s mission.
He explained that out of 19 college buses proposed to the government, the department received five this year, and thanked the state government for making this possible.
Noting that most colleges are located in remote areas, he said that transportation is a major challenge for the department and that providing buses is a crucial component in promoting higher education in Nagaland. The department is committed to providing buses for colleges across the state, he said, expressing hope that the state government would continue to support the initiative and provide buses for the remaining colleges in a phased manner.
