Heavy rainfall to continue in Nagaland, IMD warns

DIMAPUR — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning of continued heavy rainfall across Nagaland, where landslides triggered by monsoon rains have already thrown significant challenges.

On Wednesday, the IMD forecasted isolated instances of very heavy rainfall across Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on September 13 and the 14th. The broader region, including Arunachal Pradesh, is also likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next week.

Looking at the district-level forecast, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in Mokokchung district on September 12. Peren, Dimapur, Wokha, Longleng, and Mon districts can expect thunderstorms and lightning on the same day.

On September 13, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Tuensang, Mokokchung, and Zunheboto districts, while thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Mon, Longleng, Wokha, Dimapur, and Peren districts. Heavy rainfall is expected in Mon and Mokokchung districts on September 14, and on September 15, Mon, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Kohima, and Peren districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall, the IMD said.
