DIMAPUR — In response to the rising cases of dengue across Nagaland, the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP) under the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, has launch a dedicated dengue helpline number aimed at providing timely assistance, information and resources to the public during the critical period.

An update from the Health department informed that the dengue helpline no. +917630932527 is now operational to assist residents with any dengue-related inquires. It added that the service is manned by trained professionals who can offer guidance on dengue prevention and advice on seeking further medical help.

In addition to the helpline, it stated that NVBDCP has intensified its effort to combat dengue through public awareness campaign, entomological studies, fogging and distribution of long lasting insecticide nets (LLIN).

Public is urged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from dengue by using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved clothing and ensuring there is no stagnant water in and around their homes.

It mentioned that Aedes Aegypti mosquito is a ‘synanthropic’ species, much like houseflies and cockroaches, benefit from artificial habitats created where people live. It, therefore, stated that unless every household actively participates in controlling dengue breeding in and around their surroundings, combating dengue disease only through the programme alone would be futile.

NVBDCP has appealed to the community/ public to observe ‘one dry day in a week’ where water in all the containers around the house like flower pot bases, empty vessels, coolers, tyres, buckets etc. are emptied out into a dry area. It stated that dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant clean water and the eggs could hatch in a week.

It further advise the public to keep all water filled vessels and tanks tightly covered and throw out any rubbish such as plastic cups, old containers, tyres, coconut shells etc.
