Half-marathon, walkathon held in celebration of Wokha’s golden jubilee

DIMAPUR — Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wokha district, the Wokha District Sports Council (WDSA), in coordination with the golden jubilee organising committee, organised a half-marathon (open category) and a walkathon (for senior citizens).

The theme for the event, held on Monday, was ‘Run for renewal and transformation’. According to a DIPR report, the half-marathon was supported by MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe and sponsored by the department of Youth Resources and Sports.

Deputy commissioner and chairman of WDSA, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, flagged off the half-marathon, which commenced at Wokha Zero Point and culminated at public ground. For the senior citizens, the walkathon started at PWD junction and culminated at public ground.

During a short function that followed, Dr. Atheo Murry held a pep talk on fitness and health and Khriesinuo Ngacu, a fitness trainer, demonstrated a few methods to help people stay fit. Former MLA and former chairman of Lotha Hoho, Mhao Humtsoe, gave away the prizes to the winners of various categories on the occasion.

In his welcome address, district sports officer and YRSO Wokha Libemo Jami congratulated all the winners and participants and thanked all those who helped make the event a success.

Among the men, Phyobenthung Humtsoe won the half-marathon, while Renthungo Tsanglao and Chonben Tungoe finished second and third, respectively. Among the women, Nzanti Lotha won first place, with Yingabeni Odyuo and Lichumbeni Kikon finishing second and third, respectively.

Yanbemo Ngullie won first place in the senior citizens category, followed by Khoshako Erie and Yanpothung Jungio.
