DIMAPUR — A comprehensive two-day training programme was organised under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) Phase-4, in five villages of Trongar, Alisopur, Longkhitpeh, Kiding, and Mangakhyun, collectively forming the Rezeh Organic Producer Company Ltd. under Lobgkhim-Chare Block of Tuensang district on September 14 and 15.

The training, conducted by The Green Caravan, was aimed at empowering farmers with essential knowledge and skills to enhance their organic farming practices, increase productivity and improve market access, an update stated.

The training covered topics such as NPOP (national programme for organic production) guidelines and the farmers were educated on the requirements and regulations under the NPOP guidelines, ensuring that their organic produce meets national and international standards.

On Internal Control System (ICS) management, the participants were trained in effective ICS management to maintain the integrity of organic certification processes, ensuring compliance at all levels.

Regarding maintenance of farmers’ diary and activities, the importance of proper record-keeping was emphasised to help farmers track their farming activities, inputs and outputs to facilitate better planning and transparency.

On processing and value addition of produce, the experts guided farmers on how to process their produce to add value, which could enhance both the quality and marketability of their products.

The event saw the presence of Bongkam Phom, sub-divisional agricultural officer (SDAO) of Longkhim, who underscored the importance of adhering to the NPOP guidelines under the scheme.

In his address, Phom assured the farmers of the department’s full support and encouraged them to maintain high standards in organic farming, which would ultimately benefit them by opening up larger and more lucrative markets.

He also highlighted the pivotal role of organic farming in sustainable development and urged the participants to make the best use of the knowledge gained during the training.

He further emphasised that proper implementation of the guidelines would not only uplift the local farming community but also contribute to the larger goal of promoting organic farming across the region.

The training was well-received by the participants, who expressed their enthusiasm for applying the new techniques and practices to their farms.

The initiative, part of MOVCDNER Phase-4, was expected to further strengthen the organic farming ecosystem in the region, fostering both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

“Through the efforts of the Rezeh Organic Producer Company Ltd. and the support from the Department of Agriculture, this training marks another step toward empowering the farming community and promoting organic farming as a viable and sustainable livelihood option in the region,” it stated.
