Governor encourages SHGs’ efforts for state’s development
DIMAPUR — Nagaland Rural Bank (NRB) organised a felicitation programme for SHGs promoted by Nagaland Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) to commemorate the 77th Independence Day of India at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on Monday.
According to a press release from Raj Bhavan, Kohima, officials from the NSRLM and the Nagaland Rural Bank, representatives of SHGs, and officials and staff from Raj Bhavan were in attendance.
Governor La. Ganesan graced the occasion and extended his gratitude to the NRB for organising the event and for continuing the tradition of serving society in a unique and impactful way.
He added that it is heartening to witness the bank’s dedication towards fostering self-reliance and empowerment among the citizens of Nagaland through its support for SHGs, facilitated by NSRLM.
This initiative not only reflects the bank’s visionary approach but also perfectly aligns with the spirit of national development and prosperity, he said.
He went on to say that such collaborations foster a sense of community and shared responsibility and that the support of the centre, the Nagaland government, and the State Bank of India in sponsoring and nurturing the bank is a testament to the power of collaboration and collective progress.
The governor also extended his best wishes to the SHGs that have been supported through the initiative. He commended their determination and perseverance and said that he has no doubt that their efforts will yield positive results not just for themselves but for the entire state.
The NRB sanctioned a cheque of INR 2,23,74,000, and the governor, during the programme, handed it over to the NSRLM mission director for the purpose of supporting the SHGs. He also distributed sanction letters to the SHGs.
Imtimenla, joint secretary to the Nagaland government and mission director of NSRLM, delivered the opening remarks and provided a detailed history of how a handful of rural women who came together to form SHGs in 2013 have grown to a vibrant 15,900 SHGs managed by 1.30 lakh rural women.
She also revealed that many of the youths who received residential skill development are now employed in various companies across the country.
Earlier, in his welcome address, NRB chairman V V Narayana stated that the NRB has sectioned 120 SHGs loans totalling INR 223.70 lakhs. He acknowledged the governor for his encouragement and support for the event.
