Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): For the first time, girl students promoted to classes 6 and 9 from Mon district aspiring to study at Sainik School, Punglwa, will be given a chance to appear for the entrance exam at Mon headquarters and Nagnimora in January 2021.
Earlier, only boys from the district were allowed to give the entrance exam in Mon.
Through the initiation of the 35 Assam Rifles (AR) and the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), both girls and boys can now give their exams without having to travel 270 kilometre to Dimapur for the entrance test, which is regularly held in the month of January.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the general secretary of KSU, Phoe Konyak, informed that with the help of 35 AR, aspirants (both girls and boys) will be given free coaching before the entrance exams. They will also be facilitated with online registration.
‘The registration is going on. Last year, only four students from Mon gave the entrance exams since they had to travel all the way to Dimapur,’ said Konyak.
He informed that coaching will be given at Mon and Nagnimora according to the syllabus of the school and encouraged parents and students to come forward and take advantage of the offer ‘in order to study at such prestigious institution’.
“I request teachers from all schools in Mon to identify bright students and encourage the students and parents for the same,” said Konyak.
An officer from the 35 AR also told this newspaper that they are aiming at maximum online registration this year after which free coaching will begin.
“We are also assisting parents and students with the registration process so that they do not have any problem; once we get a substantial number of students, the coaching will start,” said the officer.
It was informed that PRC, Aadhaar card, DOB certificate, tribe certificate, two passport photographs, address of parents and a sum of INR 400 is required for online registration.
For further assistance, one can call the AR helpline number 7023553844 or KSU officials at 8415869733/ 8974486779.
