Dimapur, Nov. 24 (EMN): The department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, handed over essential fire fighting and safety equipments to the Southern Angami Students Union (SASU) under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) Project on November 23 during a programme held at the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force.
The programme was held in the presence of Vedpal Singh, APCCF, and Zuthunglo Patton, CF (STC) and other forest officials.
Speaking on forest fire management, Singh stated that the involvement of youth is important in combating and tackling forest fire adding that such rapid response could be a way forward. He further stated that prevention and checking of fire breakouts in the forests should be first priority followed by mitigation of the forest fires.
An appeal was made to make the best use of the equipments and to store in a safe place when not in use.
The distribution of such tools and safety gear to SASU was the first of its kind by the department under the NMHS project. The various items issued to them are fire beaters, fire hooks, ABC type fire extinguishers, walkie talkie sets, tents, fiber fire blankets, safety helmets, fire buckets, fire resistant gloves suede, pulaski axes, DCP powder, shovels, rucksack bag 50 liters, head strap torch rechargeable, emergency light rechargeable, woollen socks, Goggles and water pump.
Meanwhile, SASU has thanked the department for the various equipments distributed to them and assured that they would use them wisely and continue to strive towards preventing forest fires.
