DIMAPUR — Ahead of the Naga Plebiscite Day programme scheduled for May 16 and to be held in Dimapur, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), the apex Naga civil society organisations, and the church held a meeting on April 27 and agreed to support the day.

They further called upon all to render their full support to the Naga historical event, which holds abiding significance, according to a press statement issued by FNR.

It said that the meeting was held to express their appreciation to the Naga political groups (NPGs) for their commitment to cooperate on the essentials of Naga political and historical rights. The statement called upon all Naga citizens and people of Naga-Land to offer critical solidarity during this period of renewed “cooperation” among the NPGs.

Adoption of Naga National Anthem

The house agreed that regardless of the nature of differences within the Naga family, violence through words, statements, and bloodshed will not be tolerated by the Naga people.

Further, it stated that the “Naga National Anthem,” officially resolved in the 56th Tatar Hoho Session, Naga National Council, 2006, written and composed by late R Kevichusa, has been adopted by the NPGs on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The church and the apex Naga civil society organisations welcomed the decisions at the meeting, it said, adding that Nagas must learn the anthem.

Rampant, unabated multiple taxation

The meeting also discussed “rampant, unabated multiple taxation” with deep concern, highlighting that it is the common man and woman who suffer.

FNR called on the NPGs to conduct a serious socio-political analysis without delay, adding that the current “here and now” existential quest for economic survival is a dangerous sign of political bankruptcy. It was hoped that the NPGs would have the courage to address this matter without further delay.

The meeting was attended by members of Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), Global Naga Forum (GNF), Naga Hoho (NH), Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Naga Students Federation (NSF), Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF), Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF), Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), and United Naga Council (UNC)
