DIMAPUR — Chief Medical Officer, Mon, Dr. Supongmenla Walling, said on Monday that there is an outbreak of a disease in Pessao village, where five children have died.

She revealed this during the monthly meeting of the Mon District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) for August, held at the DC conference hall, Mon, with Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma presiding, according to a DIPR report.

She, however, informed that the situation is currently under control and that they have tested about 320 individuals, both children and adults. She also expressed her gratitude to the Hans Foundation for their assistance.

Later, speaking with Eastern Mirror, she stated that, while the disease has not been precisely identified, a series of tests have been conducted, and the results of some are awaited.

She also noted that the deaths occurred in the last week of July and involved five children and one adult.

During the meeting, the board recommended the opening of a new private school in Yannu village, Tizit, and discussed and approved the construction of a road near Shantham ward junction.

The matter concerning Bangladeshi immigrants was also discussed, and the DC urged the board, concerned villages, blocks, and citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspects to the administration or police station. Additionally, the board discussed the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in celebration of the 78th Independence Day.

The board discussed the poor condition of roads in the town area and the deteriorating Mon–Tizit road.

The DC further emphasised the need for sanitisation in the town and requested department heads to organise social work and maintain their office surroundings. He also informed about the activities assigned to all departments for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
