Mokokchung, June 22 (EMN): One wooden house was completely destroyed in a devastating fire which broke out at Longchem EAC headquarters, some 120 kilometres away from Mokokchung town, on Tuesday.
Longchem EAC, Yapangmenla, who inspected the incident site, informed that a wooden house was completely destroyed by fire at Liangmen ward of Longchem town at around 9:15 am. She added that the house belonged to one Atula of Nokpu village adding no casualty was reported.
It was reported that the fire was noticed by neighbours only after hearing the explosion of an LPG cylinder; by that time it was too late to salvage any important documents from the razing fire.
Yapangmenla informed that the fire might have started from the kitchen’s fireplace while smoking meat. She added that the owner of the house was out in her paddy field at the time of incident adding properties worth INR 10 lakh was destroyed in the fire.
The house owner, Moalong Imchen, informed Eastern Mirror that he was engaged at the construction site for the pastor’s quarter during the time of incident as he is also the secretary of Longchem Baptist Church.
He also informed that nothing could be salvaged from the house. He added that explosion of LPG cylinder hastened the fire to engulf the entire house.
He attributed the cause of the fire to the meat that was smoked in the kitchen as there was no electricity during the incident.
Imchen informed that the extra assistance commissioner (EAC) of Longchem and Longchem Baptist Church have also provided financial assistance, while the village people have also provided help during the difficult situation.
He further informed that both he and his mother are taking shelter at a relative’s house. It was informed that the villagers would help them to rebuild the house by tomorrow.
