DIMAPUR — A one-day on campus awareness-cum-training programme on ‘Safe and judicious use of pesticides’ was organised by Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL), in collaboration with KVK Dimapur, ICAR Nagaland Centre, at KVK Dimapur campus on Friday.
The additional deputy commissioner of Medziphema and chief guest of the event, James Swu, apprised the farmer to use pesticides judiciously and to apply them practically.
Dr. H Kalita, head of regional centre, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, briefed the farmers on different types of pesticides available for agriculture use. Urging the farmers to use the right pesticides dosage and to follow proper handling and timing schedules, he said that farmers should be aware on how to identify the types of pesticides based on colour markings from the labels.
The district agriculture officer of Chümoukedima, Bodevi Shuya, requested the farmers not to overuse pesticides as it will affect human health and environment.
Rajender Thapar, deputy general manager of HIL, highlighted the activities taken up by their company for the improvement of the farming community across India. He informed the gathering that a total of 160 training programmes have been conducted so far benefitting around 20,000 farmers.
In the technical session, Dr. Moanaro, programme assistant of KVK Dimapur, gave a lecture on safe handling of pesticides and use of biopesticides.
Report stated that demonstration on the use of safety kits was conducted during the training, while a video on safety and right use of pesticides was also screened to the farmers.
A total of 290 farmers from different blocks and villages of Chümoukedima district attended the training programme.
The training programme began with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Phool Kumari, senior scientist and head of KVK Dimapur, while Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, CTO, KVK Dimapur, delivered the vote of thanks.
