DIMAPUR — The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has lauded Nagaland government’s move to ban the Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra, which was scheduled to have been held in Kohima on September 28.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the association maintained that the decision has shown the state government’s maturity in ensuring that the rights and privileges of the people of Nagaland are secured and protected.

“In a secular and democratic nation like India, the imposition of religious beliefs and food habits has no place, which goes against the very fabrics of the rights of religion and choice enshrined under the Constitution of India.
“The state cabinet and the GoN have taken the correct stand to disallow such a ‘yatra’ happening in Nagaland which would not only have hurt the religious and customary practices of the Nagas, but could have even destabilised the existing socio-cultural harmony between the various multi cultural and religious communities in Nagaland,” the statement read.
The Ex-PAN viewed the move as an encouraging sign that the state government will continue to serve the people, keeping the welfare, development and the protection of the rights and sentiments of the people first and foremost. “The Ex-PAN further wishes the government of Nagaland all the very best,” it added.
