Epic Games to donate Fortnite proceeds to Ukraine relief
Dimapur, March 20 (EMN): Gaming company Epic Games on Sunday announced that it will be donating two weeks of all Fortnite proceeds to relief operations in Ukraine.
The company took to Twitter to announce its support for Ukraine and the initiative will start today and end on April 3. Funds will be donated to the following humanitarian relief organizations: Direct Relief, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) and UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

In a blog post, Epic games wrote, “Epic is committing all its Fortnite proceeds from March 20, 2022 through April 3, 2022 to humanitarian relief for people affected by the war in Ukraine. Xbox is joining us in this effort and is committing their net proceeds for Fortnite during this time, so that we can get more aid to the people of Ukraine.”
Furthermore, the company also said that it will be sending funds to these organisations as quickly as they can. “We’re not waiting for the actual funds to come in from our platform and payment partners, which can take a while depending on how the transaction was processed. As transactions are reported, we’ll log them and send the funds to the humanitarian relief organizations within days,” Epic Games wrote.
The proceeds will include all “real-money purchases” in the game including V-Buck packs, Fortnite Crew, gifted Battle Passes, and cosmetic packs. Retail store purchases of in-game cosmetics and V-Bucks cards will also be included provided they are redeemed in-game during the two-week window.
Epic is stopping commerce with Russia in our games in response to its invasion of Ukraine. We’re not blocking access for the same reason other communication tools remain online: the free world should keep all lines of dialogue open.

It may be mentioned that Epic Games along with a host of other gaming companies have already ceased sales of their games in Russia following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “Epic is stopping commerce with Russia in our games in response to its invasion of Ukraine. We’re not blocking access for the same reason other communication tools remain online: the free world should keep all lines of dialogue open,” the company said at that time.
As part of the effort, Microsoft has also agreed to donate their net proceeds for Fortnite “so that we can get more aid to the people of Ukraine.”
“Microsoft is contributing net proceeds from all sales of Fortnite content on Microsoft Store between March 20, 2022 to April 3, 2022, in all countries where Fortnite is sold. Net proceeds is equal to the gross proceeds net of returns & chargebacks, billing costs, bandwidth cost, operations cost, and taxes,” wrote Microsoft.
