Englan Yingsung women group launches adult education campaign
DIMAPUR — The Englan Yingsung Women Livelihood Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society (EYWLT&CCS) Ltd. launched an adult education campaign on September 7, commemorating International Literacy Day at the Yikhum Community Hall, Yikhum village, in Wokha district.
It was launched in collaboration with the Wokha district administration, SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women, the Department of Social Welfare (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao), and the Department of School Education, Wokha, according to a DIPR report.
Delivering the keynote address, the president of EYWLT&CCS Ltd. stressed the need for adult education for members of various self-help groups, as many are illiterate. She expressed hope that through this initiative, women in the villages will be able to write their names and signatures with ease.
A brief note on Mission Shakti was delivered by Dr. Wonchano E Enny, DMC, SANKALP: DHEW. Short speeches were also given by representatives from the Education Department, Sakhi One Stop Centre, and BPM, BMMU Wokha Block.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the chairman of Yikhum Village Council, who extended special thanks to Deputy Commissioner of Wokha Vineet Kumar for sponsoring the stationery under BBBP. He also thanked the Education department for providing study materials and the teachers who will be instructing the villagers.
The chairman noted that this campaign will tackle several issues, including accurately filling out information for various schemes, using a single signature for different bank accounts, texting, and operating smartphones.
He also expressed hope that, through this adult literacy campaign, villagers will be able to read the Bible and sing hymns proudly in church.
The adult education classes are scheduled to be held twice a week in the evening at three different locations under the Englan range. These classes will be taught by specific government teachers assigned.
