DIMAPUR — The Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) on Friday handed out Urban Local Body (ULB) election tickets to eight candidates at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur in the first phase of ticket distribution.

Among the candidates were three women– Apale Thopi for Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Ward 4, Kanili Kinilimi for DMC Ward 7 and Khetoholi for Town Council Ward-7, East Dimapur.

The other candidates include Akhevi Yeptho for DMC Ward 3; Hokheto Kiba for DMC Ward 2; Imeangba Ao for Town Council Ward 9, East Dimapur; Inoka T Wotsa for DMC Ward-9 and Pretso Therie for Town Council Ward 11, Chümoukedima.

Speaking at the ceremony, former NPCC President K Therie said the success in the recent Lok Sabha election was a victory for Christ, faith, and the people. He urged the candidates to uphold these values in the ULB elections and stressed that the Congress party opposes the ideology of the RSS and BJP.

He went on to say that the northeastern Christian states have rejected the BJP, and encouraged the candidates who are in ‘confusion’ to join the Congress party, noting that the people of Nagaland stand with the party.

Therie highlighted the need for strong municipal committees to address issues such as roads, environment, drainage, power, and water supply. He also emphasised the need to regulate trade licenses and organisations to control prices and improve the quality of life for citizens.

L Chuba, General Secretary of NPCC, Dimapur In-charge, said the candidates were chosen based on their capabilities and urged them to be effective representatives for the Congress party. He advised them to remain humble and work for the betterment of society after being elected.

Kisheto Chishi, a member of the State Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and State ULB election Committee, also delivered a brief speech. Samuel Odyuo, President of Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC), Dimapur II, led the invocation.
