Kohima, Oct. 27 (EMN): A Manipur-based social activist and environmentalist, Philem Rohan Singh, who is on a tour of 100 smart cities in India with an objective to create awareness on ‘electronic motor ride’ among the citizens, reached Kohima on Thursday.
He plans to cover all the 100 smart cities of India in over 150 days on his e-bike advocating a ‘healthy city’ movement initiated by the Imphal Smart City Ltd.
‘It is high time to promote e-bikes and cycle culture,’ the cyclist said while interacting with the staff and students of Mt Olive College in Kohima on his arrival to the state capital.
He has appealed to all to become a responsible citizen and clean the city without having others instructing them to do it saying, smart city should not just be for ‘needsakes’ but be made a reality.
The 27-year-old Philem will be conducting a series of awareness campaign with school and college students during the mission. It was learned that %0% of his tour has been partially sponsored by the Smart city authorities.
He is supposed to stay in each smart city for at least three to four days but due to a conference for all 100 smart cities in Pune on November 10 and 11, he is rushing his travel for now.
The only challenge, he said, was finding a charging point for his gadgets.
Alongside, Phelim is also focusing on raising funds for people with hearing loss through promoting an eco-friendly pen. Recently, he also established a restaurant solely operated by the deaf community in Manipur.
The cyclist would ride the entire length and breadth of the country covering more than 17,000 Km on the theme of “Humanity and Environment.”
As a social activist, he and his friends took the initiative of feeding homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in 2020.
‘It’s easy to say we care for them but no one comes forward when it comes to extending a helping hand’, he shared.
