DIMAPUR — The clean Doyang mission, launched on June 7 to tackle the accumulated plastic waste at the Doyang reservoir, concluded on Wednesday.

The clean-up was undertaken on a mission mode, with an area task force led by EAC Sungro assessing manpower, machinery, and logistical needs. Work officially began on June 8.

According to an update, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan said that waste segregation was undertaken on-site for further processing and transportation to respective processing centres. The District Administration is currently engaging with the State Government to explore solutions to prevent future accumulation of plastic waste, he said.

He urged the public in the Doyang area and neighbouring villages to formulate resolutions for managing waste effectively, in order to ensure that the catchment area remains plastic-free and to contribute to a cleaner and more beautiful Doyang.

Further, the DC lauded the efforts of all participating teams and volunteers, including those from Pangti and Dhillong villages, neighbouring villages of Doyang, Englan Range Students’ Union (ERSU), Lotha Students’ Union, and NGOs from outside the district like Team Better Dimapur, Eco Warriors Nagaland. He also thanked personnel from 7th NAP, DEF, and SDRF for their vital role in the mission’s success.

He went on to acknowledge the support of the chairman, District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Wokha and advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, who visited the area and encouraged the team.
