DIMAPUR — With the advent of festive season, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has requested the citizens to avoid use of chemicals and barium firecrackers that have been banned nationwide by the Supreme Court and to abstain from the use of high volume producing sound systems.

The union also reminded the shopkeepers and street vendors not to illegally sell banned firecrackers that would affect the society at large in future.

“The usage of harmful fire crackers never benefited anybody, instead it poses a fatal threat to all those with heart problems and other health issues. We should be mindful not to burst it in the ‘silence zones’ such as 100 metre around hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious places or any other areas which was declared by the competent authority,” DNSU said.

It also appealed to follow the specific time for bursting the green crackers at the authorised timing mentioned by the administration and not to burst beyond 10 pm.

Having received numerous complaints on sale of the banned crackers without valid licence from the competent authorities, the union warned that it would undertake checking and seize such items.

It further appealed to all the colony councils, youth and authoritie to be proactive and check unauthorised and blatant bursting of crackers in their respective colonies.

Meanwhile, the DNSU has conveyed Durga Puja and the coming Diwali greetings.
