DIMAPUR — The food court (Food Plaza) at Dimapur Railway Station, which had been closed for an extended period, reopened under new management, Griham Food & Hotel Pvt. Ltd., a Kolkata-based company, on Monday.
The outlet was formally inaugurated by Kuhoi Zhimo, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Councillor for Ward 5. According to a statement, the venture has created employment opportunities for local youths in Nagaland and will continue to do so as the business expands in the near future.
However, it noted that the location is currently not very convenient for passengers, as it is situated slightly out of the way. It added that railway authorities should address this issue and consider providing a takeaway outlet within the platform area to serve passengers who cannot disembark within the five-minute scheduled stoppage in both UP and DN directions.
It was also noted that local passengers cannot afford to buy food, leaving their luggage unattended on the platform due to the poor location of the food court. Therefore, a takeaway counter would be the best solution.
Noting that Dimapur is an important railhead for the region, both in terms of revenue generation and passenger movement, it was stated that passenger amenities need to be aligned with those at other major railway stations in the region.
It was stated that while major upgrades may take some time, small changes could significantly improve the experience for passengers boarding and disembarking in Dimapur in the meantime.
