Dimapur Naga Students’ Union flags security concerns, collapsed walls of Dimapur Government College
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has flayed the Higher Education department’s failure to “tangible action” in connection with the collapsed boundary wall of Dimapur Government College.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the union expressed grave concern over the collapsed boundary wall of DGC, “which was constructed in 2022 and miraculously collapsed within 4-5 months”.
It stated that the department has failed to take tangible action despite repeated appeals by the college students, thereby compromising the security and wellbeing of students.
“The DNSU views this incident as a stark reflection of the government’s apathy towards education and student welfare. The collapse of the wall poses a significant threat to students, especially those residing in the boys’ and girls’ hostels within the campus. Moreover, it undermines the college’s ability to conduct programs and events securely, as outsiders can easily enter.
“The incident of physical assault and extortion (on October 10) further highlights the urgency for enhanced security measures. The DNSU condemns the inaction of concerned authorities and demands immediate reconstruction of the campus boundary wall”, the statement read.
The DNSU appealed to the state government and the department concerned to immediately reconstruct the campus boundary wall and address broader security concerns, ensuring a safe environment for students.
“The DNSU warns that if no action is taken, we will be forced to consider democratic protest along with the students,” it added.
