DIMAPUR — The department of School Education has notified the closure of 13 private-run schools with immediate effect in Nagaland.

“In pursuance of the decisions taken during the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) meeting held on 15th December 2023, and upon receiving the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the respective district administrations, it is hereby notified for closure of 13 (thirteen) private schools listed in below with immediate effect,” the order read.

Kohima district alone accounted for five of the schools, followed by Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts with two each. Four other districts—Phek, Longleng, Niuland and Dimapur—had one each.

The Principal Director of School Education, Thavaseelan K explained that the mass closure was announced based on requests received from the schools themselves. He cited several reasons, including low enrolment and management no longer interested in running the school, behind the move.
