DC Wokha lays foundation for indoor sports hall

WOKHA — The deputy commissioner (DC) and chairman of Wokha District Sports Council (WDSC), Ajit Kumar Ranjan, on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of an indoor sports hall at Police Reserve, DEF Wokha.

Speaking at the programme, the DC informed that the project was initiated under National Sports Development Fund, Khelo India, under the ministry of Youth Resource and Sports, Government of India. He appreciated the state government and department of Youth Resources, Government of Nagaland, for acquiring the project in a short notice.

He recalled how the project was successfully approved overnight by submitting required documents online. He informed that the project would be accomplished in two to three months time.

Ranjan also informed that the upcoming sports hall will have two table tennis courts, one badminton court and two squash courts at an estimated cost of INR 75 lakh.

Also speaking at the programme, the Wokha superintendent of police, Aotula T Imchen, has appreciated the DC for his dynamic approach and enthusiasm in promoting sports among the youth. She stated that the project would up-skill the youth of the district in the field of sports and also benefits the police personnel.

She further thanked the DGP of Nagaland for his approval to construct the indoor sports hall in Wokha.

The event was attended by representatives of Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association, Wokha District Table Tennis Association and District Air gun (Rifle) Shooting Association.

K Libemo Jami, DYRO cum DSO of Wokha, who chaired the programme, has thanked the DC and SP of Wokha for their interest in translating the dream project to a reality. He further called upon the youth of the district to avail the facilities.
