DAKSHATA training equips Tuensang medical staff for safe childbirth
DIMAPUR — The 3-day district-level training on DAKSHATA for medical officers and nurses in Tuensang district was held from November 5 to the 7th at the district hospital conference hall in Tuensang.
On the occasion, Dr. Longri Kich, State Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Department of Health and Family Welfare (HFW), highlighted the goals and objectives of the training, according to a press statement.
He also sensitised participants on the safe childbirth checklist and emphasised the importance of ensuring quality care in the labour room, understanding the stages of labour in relation to the flow of client care, and introducing the Safe Childbirth Checklist (SCC)—a simple tool to improve the quality of care.
He covered orientation to the layout of the SCC, immediate actions for the prevention of major complications in the mother, empowering birth companions, preparing for safe delivery, and providing essential care for mothers, as well as special care for pre-term and low-birth-weight babies.
Dr. Nungsang, gynaecology and obstetrics, District Hospital Tuensang, covered various topics, including essential practices before, during, and after delivery, creating a quality-enabling environment in labour rooms, prevention, identification, and management of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, postpartum family planning, and respectful maternal care.
Nunuvero, DPM (QA), conducted a session on infection prevention practices and biomedical waste management.
