CSU Volleyball Running Trophy: MTSU retain title

DIMAPUR — The Medziphema Town Students’ Union (MTSU) successfully defended their title in the Chakhroma Students’ Union Volleyball Running Trophy by defeating the Medziphema A Students’ Union in the final match on Saturday at the Chümoukedima village ground.

The second edition of the tournament was a two-day event (November 15-16) organised by the Chakhroma Students’ Union (CSU) and hosted by the Chümoukedima Village Students’ Union. The trophy is held every three years.

It was informed that 38 villages are affiliated with CSU, and a total of 21 men’s teams and 7 women’s teams participated in the tournament.

In the women’s category, the Vidima Students’ Union team won the championship title after defeating Seithekema Basa Students’ Union in the final match.

The winners in both the men’s and women’s categories were awarded a cash prize of INR 50,000 each, along with a trophy, while the runners-up received INR 20,000 each.

Individual prizes of INR 2,000 each were also presented to the best spiker, best setter, and player of the tournament for both men and women.

For the men’s category, the best spiker award was given to Neikhonituo Krose (MTSU), the best setter award to Kevilekho Sechü (Medziphema A), and the player of the tournament award to Megosetso Theyo (Medziphema A).

For the women’s category, the best spiker award was given to Kekhrienguno Yiese (Seithekema Basa), the best setter to Pudinuo Metha (Vidima), and the player of the tournament to Seketuno Zhotso (Vidima).

The referees for the tournament were from the Chümoukedima District Referee Board and the Kohima District Referee Association.

Neingutoulie Kenguruse, councillor and convenor of Market Regulation and Enforcement, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), was the special guest at the closing ceremony.

In his brief speech, he encouraged the youth to work hard to achieve their goals and emphasised the importance of consistent practice for those wishing to pursue sports.

At the event, Miss Nagaland 2024, Neiketuono Sechü, made an appearance and Mhasikhotso Shüya performed a song.
