DIMAPUR — College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (CoVSAH) in Jalukie conducted a free “Livestock infertility awareness-cum-treatment camp” at Punglwa-A council hall under Peren district on February 24.
An update from the college stated that the programme was conducted by expert faculty and students under the leadership of Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, assistant professor of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and supervision of Dr. I Shakuntala, dean of the college. The programme was funded by ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines, Hissar, Haryana, under NEH-Component.
Dr. Tukheswar Chutia chaired the programme, while Dr. A Palanisammi, professor of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, welcomed the farmers and encouraged them to acquire knowledge and benefit from the programme.
As a part of the programme, a technical session was conducted wherein various topics related to livestock infertility and diseases were delivered by the resource persons followed with a farmer-scientist interaction.
The topics including “Infertility issues in livestock, its impact and management,” “Parasitic diseases affecting animal reproduction and its management,” “Common animal diseases in Nagaland, prevention and treatment” and “Zoonotic diseases of public health importance” were delivered by professors namely Dr. Tukheswar Chutia; Dr. Sonjoy Kr Borthakur, assistant professors namely Dr. Neithono Kuotsu and Dr. Raghubir Singh respectively.
It stated that free animal health check-up, treatment and vaccination were also carried out during the programme.
Report also stated that reproductive health check up of cows through per rectal examination, castration and hernia operation in pigs, wound dressing and dog vaccination against rabies were performed during the camp. Besides, vitamins, mineral mixtures, anthelmentics, antibiotics and other veterinary medicines were distributed to the needy farmers for a total of 580 livestock including 38 cattle, 47 buffaloes, 133 pigs, 26 dogs, 36 cats and 300 poultries.
A total of 58 participants including 44 farmers and 14 officials attended the programme.
