Consultative meeting on proposed railway belt held in Longleng

DIMAPUR — A consultative meeting on the proposed railway belt from Dimapur to Tizit was held under the chairmanship of MLA B Bangtick Phom with the affected villages on September 19 in Yonglok village under Longleng district.

The meeting was attended by the deputy commissioner of Longleng, W Manpai Phom, SP Longleng, president of Phom Peoples’ Council and the concerned village council, a DIPR report stated.

In his address, the chairman appealed for active cooperation of all stakeholders for the success of the railway project within Longleng district. It was also made known to the concerned village authorities of the need to issue no objection certificate (NOC) for the finalisation of the project.

After thorough deliberation, the key takeaway points included that three villages namely Yonglok, Shetep and Namahching would be covered/affected under the proposed railway belt in Longlend district.

The house, as requested by the affected village councils, agreed to initiate a joint sitting with all the stakeholders starting from Dimapur and other villages/ towns within the proposed railway belt. The house also requested the concerned MLA to take up the matter with the chief minister.

Additionally, the house agreed in principle to issue no objection certificate with the condition that the beneficiaries are compensated as per approved government rate.

Further, the demand for a full-fledged railway station in Yonglok village was agreed upon to cater the services of Longleng district.

The Bura Namsang village council, the parent village of the three affected villages, assured that it has ‘no objection’ whatsoever with the developmental activities to be carried out by the government.
