MOKOKCHUNG — In a significant development, Mokokchung Police has apprehended a constable from the 9 NAP (IR) Battalion, identified as Renpothung Ezung (44 years old), for his alleged involvement in drug peddling.
The arrest took place during a routine checking and frisking operation at Settsu junction on Wednesday.
During the inspection of a Tata Sumo (taxi) bearing registration number NL 01 T 9627, officers discovered a cache of illegal substances concealed within various compartments. Consequently, a total of 276 contraband capsules were recovered.
The incident resulted in the filing of a case under Mokokchung PS-II C/No. 0034/23, with charges filed under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The Mokokchung Police is expected to carry out a comprehensive investigation to uncover the extent of the constable’s alleged involvement in the drug trafficking network.
