Our Reporter
Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Residents of three colonies under Burma Camp in Dimapur repaired the colony road as a “temporary solution” by filling it with gravel at Power House Colony near the Electrical department office on Saturday.
The repair work was undertaken with contributions from three colonies namely Power House Colony, Dr. Haralu Colony and Namgalong Colony. The road repairing work, which was neglected for more than a decade, was initiated with the contributions from around 1500 households.
Interacting with journalists, chairman of Power House Colony, Alem Aier, claimed that the road was left unattended for more than a decade making it inconvenient for the residents as well as the commuters to travel through the area.
Aier maintained that the road stretched upto 350 metre was situated along the highway. He also pointed out how the bad road condition was putting at risk the safety of the commuters, who use the road on a daily basis.
Aier said, “In the year 2018, the colonies had written a letter to the concerned executive engineer of PWD (R&B), Dimapur, requesting for repairing of important link road (by-pass) passing through Power House Colony, Namgalong and Dr. Haralu Colony. The request was assured to be repaired on the second phase but no action plan was carried out till date”.
He also mentioned that the colonies have been repairing the road for the second time with contributions from the residents. He hoped that the government would look into the matter at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Aier has thanked the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), deputy commissioner of Dimapur, traffic personnel, Power department, a social worker Ronika Miachieo, and residents of the three colonies for their contributions towards the initiative.
