DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) on Thursday celebrated its 25th anniversary at the NBCC Platinum Hall in Bayavü, Kohima, on the theme “Fostering unity in Christ.”

An update from the forum stated that the event marked 25 years of uniting Christian denominations across Nagaland.

NJCF president and NBCC general secretary, Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho, described the gathering as a significant milestone, noting the challenge of bringing together members from all denominations.

“It’s not easy to gather even 20 people, but today we are here in hundreds,” he said, emphasising the rarity of such an event.

Looking to the future, Keyho expressed hope that the NJCF’s legacy would be carried forward by younger generations, envisioning an even larger gathering for its 50th anniversary. He called for greater inclusion of women in the forum, stressing that its future would be shaped by the involvement of both women and men.

In his sermon, Keyho reflected on the NJCF’s biblical foundation and urged the church to act as stewards of God’s creation. He warned against the secularisation of the church and the influence of worldly practices, emphasising that the church’s role is to shape the world, not be shaped by it.

He also cautioned against “Christ-less Christianity,” where outward appearances overshadow spiritual growth.

Keyho highlighted the need for unity among Christian denominations and quoted Helen Keller who once said: “Alone, we do so little; together, we can do so much.”

He acknowledged challenges within the church such as jealousy and division and urged believers to reflect on their role in strengthening the body of Christ.

The event included greetings from Khyomo Lotha, a message from Rev. Zhabu Terhüja, and special performances from various churches.

The office bearers of NJCF for the tenure 2024-2029 would be led by Rev. Dr. N Paphino as president, Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao as vice president, Rev. Dr. Moses Murry as secretary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Pezalhoukho George Rino as joint secretary and Dr. Khontele Seb as finance secretary and treasurer.

The incoming NJCF president, Rev. Dr. N. Paphino, expressed gratitude to the outgoing leadership and proposed that Rev. Dr. Keyho and Khyomo Lotha serve as advisors to the forum.
