DIMAPUR — The Christian Forum Dimapur (CFD) celebrated its 25th anniversary jubilee, marked by worship, reflection and a renewed commitment to its mission of promoting faith and unity, at Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, on Saturday.

In a press release, the CFD stated that the theme of the celebration, ‘Witnessing God’s faithfulness,’ captured the essence of the event, as attendees from various Christian denominations came together to honour the forum’s journey over the past 25 years.

Around 300 representatives from different churches including clergy, pastors, believers and community representatives attended the celebration.

In his welcome address, Rev. S Vitoshe Swu, senior pastor of Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church (DSBC), highlighted the church’s joy in hosting the event and extended gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the important milestone with the larger Christian community.

Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho, general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), the main speaker for the occasion, delivered a message on ‘Witnessing God’s faithfulness.’

He emphasised CFD’s role in addressing various social and spiritual issues concerning the marginalised and voiceless in society. Dr. Keyho urged the Christian community to remain united in Christ and to avoid divisions in the name of religion, warning that grace cannot be received if Christians fight in the name of Christ.

Rev. Moses Murry, chairman of CFD, walked the audience through the history of the forum. He recalled that the forum was formed on January 27, 1999, in response to the tragic killing of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons.

Rev. L Bizo, the then chairperson of the Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship, was instrumental in organising the Christian community to respond with protest and prayer, he said.

Rev. Murry reflected on the forum’s role in advocating for justice and peace over the years, particularly through efforts such as pushing for the enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act and providing aid during the Manipur conflict.

Prayers for “different intentions” were led by prominent leaders.

Rev. Dr. Alem Sangtam offered a prayer for the people of Nagaland, emphasising the importance of spiritual and social progress. Rev. Dr. N Paphino prayed for the renewal and revival of Nagaland and Rev. Dr. N Tzüdir prayed for those in conflict, reminding the congregation of the importance of reconciliation and peace.

Rev. Fr. C Chacko led a special prayer for the younger generation, highlighting the need to invest in their spiritual and moral upbringing. He emphasised the role of the Church in nurturing the future leaders of the community. Rev. Dr. Keni prayed for the host church, expressing gratitude for their hospitality and involvement in the event.

Other highlights of the celebration included choreography by members of Bethesda AG Church, presentation of mementos arranged by the CFD women’s wing and jubilee choir from DSBC singing ‘Great is Thy faithfulness.’

The offertory prayer was led by Rev. Dr. Weyiete Lohe, chairman of the CBCC. Rev. Dr. CP Anto, secretary of CFD, proposed vote of thanks.

Earlier, the programme began with an invocation led by Rev. RP Murry.

“The event concluded with a strong sense of unity and gratitude, as CFD members and attendees reflected on 25 years of God’s faithfulness and looked forward to continuing their mission of service, justice, and peace in the years to come.

“The Christian Forum Dimapur, having grown into a vital voice for the Christian community in Nagaland, remains committed to its founding principles of love, unity, and faith in action,” the release stated.
