Choir competition marks World Music Day celebration in Tseminyu

DIMAPUR — Tseminyu celebrated World Music Day on June 21 by organising a choir competition initiated by the Council of Rengma Baptist Church (CRBC) youth ministry with Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) Tseminyu, on the theme ‘Ma Shwen Lo.’

Eight different churches under CRBC participated in the competition, which was organised with the objective to revive choral music in the Rengma region, an update stated.

Kithagha Union Baptist Church walked away with the first prize, while Bethel Baptist Church and Dimapur Rengma Baptist Church were placed first runners-up and second runners-up, respectively. Tseminyu Town Baptist Church won the consolation prize.

Tesinle Lorin of DRBC was declared the best conductor and Bethel Baptist Church Tseminyu won the ‘best uniform’ prize of the competition.

Chairman of TaFMA, Theja Meru was the special guest of the event, which was also attended by Dr. Hovithol, project director of TaFMA; Imcha Imchen, music producer TaFMA; Rev. Haiwalo Apon, executive secretary of CRBC and Enock Seb, youth secretary CRBC.

Theja Meru lauded the TaFMA district partner Tseminyu and CRBCYM for organising the event and appreciated the efforts of the participants. Recognising the talents of the participants, Meru also highlighted on how Rengma community is forging ahead in the field of music. He encouraged the Rengma people to continue with the good works and to motivate other tribes as well.

Executive secretary of CRBC, Rev. Haiwalo Apon stressed on the importance of music and the reason for celebrating World Music Day and how music can connect, inspire and heal. He further encouraged the audience to use the gift of music to glorify God’s name.

The judges of the competition were Visenuo Rio, asst. professor MSSM Patkai; Mhonroni Lotha, asst. professor in conducting MSSM Patkai; Hinenlo Kath, TaFMA district coordinator Tseminyu and proprietor of Music Academy, Tseminyu.

Hundreds of people attended the event, which was also marked by live music performances by various Rengma artistes and food stalls set up at the venue.
