Chakhesang students observe ‘Black Day’

DIMAPUR — The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) on Thursday observed its annual ‘Black Day’ in North Kikruma Village under Phek district.

The day is observed to honour the memory of its former games and sports secretary (2006-2008), Lt. Achikho Puro, who was tragically killed on October 3 along with Lt. Kuzhongoyo Puro, Lt. Kuvetso Kezo and Lt. Avo Kezo by the combined forces of NSCN-K and FGN Non-Accordist.

The event featured speeches by distinguished guests including its president, Pfhülo Sara; Veto Kezo village council member and former president of Kikruma Students’ Union; Thupusuyo Tunyi, chairman of North Kikruma village council, and Mutsivoyi Kotso, tribunal general and former president of CSU.

In his solidarity message, Medovi Rhi, president of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), lauded the Chakhesang Students’ Union for observing ‘Black Day’ in memory of four heroes, who sacrificed their life for the cause of Naga sovereignty. He also encouraged embracing forgiveness and to march forward in strengthening the Naga unity for a better future.

During the programme, the CSU president announced the revocation of non-cooperation movement against the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) Non-Accordist and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) in exercising the powers vested in the executive council by the union assembly’s standing resolution No. 3.

The president urged all Nagas, regardless of their background or affiliation, to come together in harmony. He also emphasised the crucial need for collective efforts to achieve a swift and enduring political solution for the Naga people, encouraging unity and cooperation among all the Nagas.

The move marked a significant step towards reconciliation and peaceful resolution. The union encouraged all parties to work collaboratively towards a mutually beneficial outcome.

The program was chaired by CSU general secretary, Kuzoto Swuro, while Kuzuveyo Puro, pastor of North Kikruma Baptist Church, said the invocation prayer and Nücühülü Venuh delivered words of gratitude.

CSU executives and tribunals, CSU senior members, council members of Kikruma and North Kikruma, CSU affiliated units, family members of the victims, elders, and well-wishers attended the programme.
