CFD peace mission reaches out to relief camps in Manipur
DIMAPUR – Continuing with the humanitarian efforts, in its latest relief operation, the Christian Forum Dimapur (CFD) peace mission has reached out to 350 families stationed at three Meitei relief camps and one Kuki relief camp in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
The two outreaches were carried out in collaboration with the Assemblies of God of East India (AGEI), the Catholic Church (through Peace Channel), the Clarician congregation, and the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO).
Giving an overview of its activities, the CFD informed in a press statement after its latest relief operation carried out on Wednesday that during the two phases, the first being on June 21, the CFD, along with others, provided medicines, provisions including rice, oil, biscuits, sugar, dal, and camp kits containing mosquito nets, bedsheets, pillows and pillow cases, torches, bath towels, and soap.
A 12-channel ECG machine for the Kangpokpi Christian Mission Hospital was also part of the relief operations.
The members of the CFD interacted with leaders of the Kuki tribe, the Senapati Baptist Church Council, and the AMCO during the mission, demonstrating the forum’s commitment to assisting all communities, regardless of background, and reinforcing a message of inclusivity. Further, the forum also interacted with the director of the social welfare department in Manipur, the women’s commission in Manipur, and the members of the Manipur press.
Beyond distributing relief materials, the CFD emphasised the importance of engaging with interfaith groups and Meitei intellectuals in an endeavour to foster understanding and communal harmony, promoting peaceful coexistence among diverse religious and cultural groups.
The CFD in the press note also acknowledged the contributions of the Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, Bethesda AG Church, Nagaland Christian Revival, Rengma Baptist Church, Dimapur Baptist Women’s Union, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, and others to the cause and hoped that the compassion and dedication displayed by the forum and its partners would inspire others to join hands in similar efforts.
During the two phases of the relief operations, the CFD reached out to five camps. The CFD peace mission consisted of Rev. Moses Murry, chairman; Rev. S. Vitoshe Swu, vice president; Fr. Dr. C.P. Anto, secretary; Rev. Vangpong Phom, member; and Rev. Kevihulie Pienyu, member. Rev. Thomas Menamparampil, archbishop emeritus from Guwahati, was also a part of the peace mission.
