Body of missing Dimapur youth retrieved after 72 hour-search

Diphu, Oct. 11 (EMN): The body of a youth from Dimapur, who went missing after accidentally falling into Langvoku waterfall, was retrieved after 72 hours of continued search operations by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire and Emergency Service team in Diphu.
The youth, Suresh Chakma (23) of Firing Range colony in Dimapur, had visited Langvoku waterfall for a picnic along with his friends on October 8 when the tragic accident happened.
Chakma’s friends informed that they had climbed to the crest of the waterfall and were taking photos when the victim slipped and fell.
Langvoku waterfall is located about 43 km away from Dimapur.
As part of the operation, the local committee members of Langvoku waterfall took a bold step in letting the main river water divert to the other side in order to decrease the volume of river water. After the volume of water went down, one of the members saw the body about 30 meters away from the point where Chakma had reportedly fallen.
Assistant Commissioner of Diphu, Gunjun Sharma said that with continued search operations by the SDRF team and Fire and Emergency Service, Diphu, and cooperation from locals of Langvoku, the dead body was pulled out at around 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
‘SDRF and police teams are there and arrangements have been made (for the body) to be brought to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem’, Sharma said.
Bey expressed appreciation to members of the Langvoku Waterfall Development Committee and villagers of Langvoku who helped the search team.
