Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony in Kohima on February 28 in honour of Late Rifleman Surendra Lal Arya.
A dfence release stated that Surendra Lal Arya was critically injured on November 22, 1995, in the fight with insurgents at Kalain Chara area in Cachar district of Assam. He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment on February 28.
It stated that his wife, Kamala Devi, from Haldwani in Uttrakhand witnessed the wreath laying ceremony being organised in Kohima. It added that the unit commandant interacted with Kamala Devi and paid his respect on behalf of the battalion.
In another programme, Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) distributed ration and food items to the February 25 fire affected victims of Master Colony in Dimapur district.
It mentioned that nearly 30 houses were destroyed in the devastating fire affecting 70 families. Following the incident, the Assam Rifles distributed essentials items like rice, wheat and sugar to the residents to mitigate the hardship of the people.
It stated that the secretary of village council has thanked the Assam Rifles for their help and support.
Meanwhile, 25 Sector of Assam Rifles has felicitated 61 children including 46 boys and 15 girls of TCL region who have successful passed the Sainik School Entrance examination in Arunachal Pradesh on February 27.
It stated that coaching classes were conducted at respective battalion headquarters in which the aspirants had attended with full sincerity and zeal. It added that the continuous joint effort has resulted in selection of the children.
Commandants of the respective battalions have conveyed best wishes and encouraged the selected children to be role models for other children.
