DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles extinguished a fire that broke out around 1 pm at a house in Pungro town on Thursday.
An update from the force stated that Assam Rifles personnel swiftly responded to the fire that had engulfed a house, posing a significant threat to nearby homes and property.
It said that upon receiving the alert, a team from the Assam Rifles was immediately dispatched to the scene. Their quick action, in coordination with local villagers, helped bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures.
No casualties were reported, although there was a significant loss of property, it noted.
Meanwhile, a ceremonial attestation parade was conducted at the parade ground of the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School at Shokhuvi on Thursday, marking the culmination of 44 weeks of rigorous recruit training.
It included 270 male recruits and 30 female recruits in the General Duty Trade, bringing the total to 1,897 recruits who will now join the force as trained soldiers, according to an update.
The attestation parade was reviewed by Brigadier Raman Sharma, Sena Medal, Commandant of the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, in the presence of Colonel Rajiv Chaudhary, Bar to Sena Medal, Deputy Commandant of the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, along with other senior officers of the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles.
Addressing the recruits, the reviewing officer highlighted the rich history and legacy of the Assam Rifles as the oldest paramilitary force in the country. He mentioned that the Assam Rifles is responsible for border security, counter-insurgency, and maintaining law and order in northeast India.
He emphasised the significant responsibility now bestowed upon the newly attested recruits as the sentinels of the northeast. He also stressed the importance of discipline and physical fitness in a soldier’s life.
He expressed confidence in the training conducted at the training centre, stating that it would serve the young soldiers well. He wished them the very best in their future assignments.
After the parade, the reviewing officer personally met the award winners: overall best recruit and best in firing recruit Lalbiakzuala, best in physical standards recruit Mansi Sharma, and best in drill recruit M Chungneireng Kom.
