Assam emerge as overall champion

Shooters from Assam celebrate with the trophy after emerging overall champion at the XI North East Zone Shooting Championship.

DIMAPUR — A total of 369 shooters, comprising 245 men and 124 women from the six North Eastern States, participated in the recently concluded XI North East Zone Shooting Championship.

The breakdown of participants from each state is as follows: Assam—144, Arunachal Pradesh—4, Manipur—73, Meghalaya—52, Mizoram—28, and Nagaland—37. Additionally, 25 shooters from the Assam Rifle Marksmanship Unit and 6 from the Army Marksmanship Unit participated in the championship.

It was organised by the Aries Rifle and Pistol Shooting Academy, Khelo India Centre, Dimapur, and conducted by the Nagaland Rifle Association under the aegis of the National Rifle Association of India. The event took place at the Aries Sports Complex Shooting Ranges, Bamunpukhuri-I, from September 25 to October 1.

According to an update, Nagaland secured 12 medals in the event, comprising 5 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze.

Assam topped the list with 31 gold, 17 silver, and 15 bronze medals, totalling 63 and securing first place. Manipur followed in second place with 14 gold, 18 silver, and 19 bronze medals, amounting to 51.

Mizoram came in third with 11 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze medals for a total of 26. Meghalaya ranked fourth with 6 gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze, totalling 28. Nagaland finished fifth and Arunachal Pradesh did not secure any medals and ranked sixth.
