ARK Foundation organises programme for youth on SDGs
KOHIMA — ARK Foundation with support from SDGCC under Planning and Transformation department and UNDP programme organised a day-long programme for the youth on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) titled ‘Promoting youth involvement through cultural exchange’ in Kohima on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the principal secretary of Planning and Development Commissioner, R Ramakrishnan, stated that such events have the power to shape youth and future leaders, who are culturally aware, empathetic, tolerant and dedicated to building a more peaceful and inclusive community.
“Despite diversities, common aspiration is shared for a brighter and more inclusive future. Such initiatives can bridge differences and work together towards common goals such as the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development,” Ramakrishnan said.
He added that young people contributed significantly to the development of their communities and brings about positive solutions.
“As young leaders of today and tomorrow, youth will not only directly experience the outcome of SDGs but will also be the key driver for their successful implementation. Therefore, it is essential to continue raising awareness about the 2030 agenda for sustainable development among young people, create platforms for dialogues and promote conditions for active engagement,” he added.
He went on to add that the state government was committed to work towards creation of adequate opportunities and foster the youth resources of the state for the greater good and overall development.
Earlier, the president of ARK Foundation, Ketho Angami, highlighted on “Youth for SDG sustainable development goals,” while Dr. P Ngully of Kohima Educational Trust, spoke on “Understanding the SDG goals 16 in Nagaland context.”
Youth delegates clad in traditional attires participated in extempore speech on Naga cultural identity.
