Amazon starts using custom electric trucks to deliver packages
Dimapur, Feb. 4 (EMN): Delivery vehicles could soon be all-electric as Amazon has started deploying its custom electric trucks for delivery services in Los Angeles.
In a blog post on its website, Amazon announced that it has been testing delivery services using its custom electric vehicles in Los Angeles, United State of America.
In 2019, Amazon announced The Climate Pledge—a commitment to be net-zero carbon across its business by 2040. As part of its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, Amazon partnered with Rivian, an electric-truck start-up, and announced last year that it would buy 100,000 custom electric delivery trucks.
“Rivian‘s purpose is to deliver products that the world didn’t already have, to redefine expectations through the application of technology and innovation,” said RJ Scaringe, Rivian Founder and CEO in the blog post.
“This milestone is one example of how Rivian and Amazon are working toward the world of 2040, and we hope it inspires other companies to fundamentally change the way that they operate,” Scaringe continued.
In the blog post, Amazon wrote, “More customers will see the custom electric delivery vehicles cruising neighbourhoods in up to 15 additional cities in 2021, ahead of tens of thousands of vehicles hitting the road over the next few years.”
Amazon says that it has “installed thousands of electric vehicle charging stations at its delivery stations across North America and Europe” in preparation for its new electric truck delivery services.
