All Nagaland College Students’ Union serves ultimatum to Higher Education department
DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has served an ultimatum to the Higher Education department to discontinue the service of 42 contractual teachers who didn’t meet the requisite qualifications.
In a letter to the minister of Higher Education and Tourism, the student body demanded the department to take action within 14 days (starting from Sep. 8) and also take all measures to ensure there is no shortage of teachers.
The ANCSU accused the concerned department of not showing sincerity in solving the decade-long issue of appointments being made on a contract basis over the years despite giving sufficient time.
Maintaining that it had given recommendations and suggestions, as well as submitted several representations on the matter, the student body said ‘such irregular appointments have not only deprived the aspirants of an open competition but also affected the teaching environment in educational institutions’.
While acknowledging the services of the contractual teachers, the ANCSU said it cannot allow such services to continue henceforth.
