Advisor G Ikuto Zhimomi visits coffee farms in Kohima

DIMAPUR — G Ikuto Zhimomi, Advisor for Land Resources, accompanied by the director and senior officers of the department, visited the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC) 2.0 project area at Gariphema Bawe and Tuophe Phezou, Tuophema in Kohima on Wednesday.

According to a press release, during the visit, they toured the coffee plantations and interacted with the growers. It mentioned that the villagers have harvested about 2.50 metric tonnes of parchment coffee this season, and some are yet to be harvested

He visited the recently completed coffee washing station, which is supported with funding from the North Eastern Council (NEC) project 2022–23, noted the release, adding that the capacity of the washing station is 1,000 kilograms per hour and can handle the production of cherry coffee from the entire cluster.

Currently, there are 95 growers at Gariphema Bawe, with a total area coverage of about 100 hectares.

The advisor also visited the Touphe Phesou coffee plantation and witnessed first-hand the coffee drying process on the farms. The cluster has about three metric tonnes of parchment coffee ready for marketing, as reported by the growers. He then visited the ongoing land preparation for further expansion of the plantation during 2024–25.

Zhimomi then visited the ongoing installation of a coffee washing station at Tseisema Bawe and spoke with the facility’s beneficiaries. The facility is partially completed, it said, mentioning that various stages of machines have been tested and are working smoothly.
