DIMAPUR— The members of the Akato Chophy-led NSCN/GPRN group, who were allegedly abducted by the NSCN (IM) from Lapalampong village in Tizit Area on July 30, were released on Tuesday.
According to a reliable source, three of them, Honchai Konyak (Tatar), Talem Konyak (Leacy), and Captain Wanglem Konyak, were released on August 1 at around 4 p.m. and further informed that they were tortured while in the custody of the NSCN (IM) Aro Range Konyak Region.
The source also stated that Captain Wanglem Konyak, one of the victims, was admitted to the District Civil Hospital, Mon, in a critical condition. It should be noted that the NSCN/GPRN (Akato) had earlier claimed in a press release that four of its active members, including three civil officials and a Naga army officer, were abducted and tortured while on their way to meet Konyak Union members. It had also alleged that its incumbent chairman (deputy kilonser) Temzei Konyak was “butchered to death” by the NSCN (IM).
