Lok Sabha 2024 election: NPP declares support for PDA consensus candidate in Nagaland
DIMAPUR — Declaration of support for the Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections continues with the National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland state unit becoming the latest political party to jump on the bandwagon on Saturday.
The state unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), BJP and Janata Dal United (JD-U) had earlier declared support for Dr. Chumben Murry after the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) made his candidature public.
In a press release, the NPP stated that it had decided to support the PDA consensus candidate for the upcoming general elections, citing its alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre and the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) at the regional level.
The update came a week after the party’s former Lok Sabha MP candidate, Hayithung Bill Lotha, announced his candidature for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, without mentioning the political party he would contest from.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress on Friday declared S Supongmeren Jamir, the incumbent president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, as its candidate for the state’s lone parliamentary seat.
LJP (RV) to field candidate
The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Yuva has announced that it would field a candidate in both the Lok Sabha and ULB elections.
The decision was taken at the meeting of its state, district and sub unit executives at Saramati Hotel, Dimapur, on Friday, said an update from the president of LJP (RV) Yuva Nagaland unit.
In regard to the proposal of the NDPP for a pre-poll alliance and to support PDA consensus candidate Dr. Chumben Murry, the party’s youth wing said that it would not support any regional or national political party in upcoming Lok Sabha polls until its central leadership issues an order on the same.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the dates for the much-anticipated Lok Sabha election though it is expected to be held in April and May.
