DIMAPUR — Against the backdrop of power outages in Dimapur and the adjoining districts on September 15 and the 16th, the Power department on Saturday updated that the blackout was due to a grid disturbance in Dimapur.
It informed that a disturbance occurred at 132/66/33kV Nagarjan sub-station on Sep. 15 around 6.30 pm, where both the 132kV D/C main incomers got isolated from the interstate sub-station.
Subsequent attempts were made by the officers and staff of the department to restore power supply, but the disturbance persisted and Nagarjan sub-station blacked out at 7. 05 pm, which affected power supply to the districts of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland and Peren, the department stated.
“On further investigation and diagnostic testing, a transformer relay mal-operation was detected and isolated from circuit,” it added.
The department also informed that Nagarjan sub-station was normalised and power supply restoration was initiated on Sep. 15 at 11: 08 pm and fully restored at 00:40 am on Saturday.
A follow-up testing and rectification work was done on Saturday where the 132/33kV 100MVA transformer was put under shutdown for two hours from 11 am to 1:05 pm, it said.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused to the consumers, the department said that its “officers and staff are fully committed to render public service on priority” in spite of the constraints.
